Chris Brown and Rihanna

Back together again! I have a two theories about this situation. One- Rihanna is just plain not that smart, or Two- Chris Brown never did it in the first place. Perhaps the media made it into something it wasn't.

Now that I think about it, it's amazing how much people care about this. Whether or not they are dating or not dating, it has no personal affect on our lives, and yet, I'm totally absorbed in the gossip. I know, it's sad.

Running of the brides

I have been in 4 weddings as a bridesmaid. If there is one thing I have learned, it's that a bride gets  what a bride wants. Filene's Basement has the annual "Running of the Brides" in which thousands of women fight for the dress of their dreams at one of the largest designer dress discount events in the city.

The store at EMTs on the scene incase anyone got hurt! I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to bleed in a store like that. Getting any on one of those white dresses could cost you thousands.

Moral to the story, do not mess with a bride-to-be.

Final Project

I am unsure as to what my final project will be but I have come up with a few ideas. I have become very good at editing newspaper pages because I work at The Collegian, but I don't know if it makes me an expert. It may also be kind of boring.

I am also a pretty decent piano player, I have played for 12 years. I was thinking I could do something like give the basic instructions on the keys or how to read music. Teaching a song like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" could be easy to explain to someone who has never played.

I am afraid that these ideas would put the class to sleep so I have been trying to think of things that I can do that are more fun. Sorry I don't have a better explanation for my project, but I will think about it some more and then blog again tonight.

I'll write soon!

Whistling Orangutan

So an orangutan in the Washington D.C. Zoo recently taught itself to whistle. The crazy part is that no one actually taught the orangutan, Bonnie, to do it. Researchers say they think she just picked it up from seeing others do it. Zoo researchers say it is a good way to study how human speech evoloved. She also does funny stuff like mimic people she sees sweeping and cleaning windows at the zoo, the same people who probably whistle while they work. What a smart little primate.

Maybe it's stupid, but I think that's pretty dang cool. Sure, you hear about trained chimps that know sign language, but how often do you hear about an orangutan that taught itself to whistle.

I think it's cool, watch the video I linked.

Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist

Not long ago I rented the movie Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist. I loved it. I found it to be a little cheesy at times but it was actually very funny. My friends and I all found it to be worth the money. The story line was good and it was entertaining. Plus, it had the guy from Juno in it (Michael Cera), he's hilarious!

Oh, and the "playlist" part of the movie was amazing. I can't wait to download their soundtrack. It's the kind of music that just makes you happy!

Crazy chimpanzee lady

This lady is psycho! She owns a pet chimpanzee that flipped out and attacked her friend. First of all, the lady was weird to begin with. She slept with monkey, took baths with the monkey, and was way to friendly! Now I know what you're thinking, "that's cute that she has a little pet" ... this is no little pet. The chimp, named Travis, was 200 pounds! That's more than a good percentage of most humans.

Moral to the story, never take in wild animals. Plus, this was just a strait up weird relationship she had with the chimp. He was like her replacement family when her husband and daughter died. Buy a cat, don't form a relationship with a chimpanzee!

I have a strict rule when it comes to pets ... never ever take in a wild animal. I hate it when people take in monkeys and tigers and bears and crazy animals like that. I don't care how long you have that pet or how well trained it is, it is a wild animal. It needs to be IN THE WILD. If it cannot fend for itself, it needs to be in a zoo or some kind of professional animal habitat. Not in your back yard!

Oh, and by the way, my sister's boyfriend is named Travis, so for the past week he has been getting made fun of by people saying he's going to bite my sister's face off. Haha!

Chris Brown vs. Rihanna

So I'm pretty sure that 98% of Americans hate Chris Brown right now. I can't believe he "allegedly" beat up Rihanna. Rihanna's amazing. The LAPD put out this press release saying that basically even though Chris Brown is famous and gorgeous, he's still going to pay for beating the heck out of an amazing girl.

Baby face Chris Brown isn't so innocent.

Signing Day- Jarvis

SPORTS

She did much better on this flier than she did on the tuition rally flier. The photo of Ryan Berry was big and attention grabbing. Her font choices were similar but in different colors so it gave it some contrast. I really liked the box around the words, for some reason it seemed easier to read. I would have made the words a little bigger or at least moved them over, because there was a big blank space between the photo and the words. Overall, this was a big improvement! Much Better!

I think this flier had a few things that need work. The smaller words were in gray and I think she did that because she was trying to create contrast but it did make it a little hard to read. However, I did like the little message she made up, it was interesting. The problem I think would be that I don't know if people would stop long enough to read it. It wasn't a disaster, but she has room for improvement. I don't know how well the large font at the top fit the topic of the flier. The flier is about an economic crisis and the font was kind of fun. The two don't really coincide. If she would have taken a little break and looked at it again, I think she would have even seen what I am talking about.

Krista Burns -Signing Day

I really enjoyed Krista's signing day flier. It was fun to look at and I enjoyed her font choices. I think I liked it better than I liked my own. The box around the picture of Ryan Berry helped make it easier to look at. The thick line she put under her title words worked out well because it separated it from the smaller text. Krista did not however, have one main alignment line so I would suggest she think of that for the future.

I thought that overall it was a nice flier. I liked the font choices that Krista used, they were different but they complemented each other in a good way. I did notice that she no specific alignment line, she had words everywhere. It made it interesting, but it probably wasn't the best choice. She didn't go "box crazy" and have 5 boxes on one flier like some of the others I have seen, so that was a good thing. I would have liked to have seen a little use of color in her flier rather than just different grays. The use of all the grays made it seem kind of dull to look at. It was a very well designed flier and it was easy to read but I don't know how eye catching it would be if I saw it in the Rotunda.

Brilliant Firefighter

So this Cincinnati firefighter had the brilliant idea to steal equipment from his firehouse and then give it to his girlfriend to see on eBay.

Who does that? So much for our firefighters being these brave people who's goal in life is to save those in danger. That's a bunch of lies. When I think of firefighters I think of those people who carry women and children out of burning buildings. In reality, firefighters are also human, and they also make some STUPID mistakes.

I'm not saying it's okay to steal city property and sell it, but I am saying that not all firefighters are these heroic people we like to think they are. People are people, some do good things, some do bad. It happens.

Just plain stupid

Seriously, what kind of criminals do we have these days? This was just plain stupid!

Pepsi 8 pack?

Pepsi Cola recently changed their 12-pack to an 8-pack and left the price the same. They claim that it's ok because they didn't "raise the price." Which I guess is true, but you're paying the same price for a smaller product.

Stupid economy ... I want the 12 pack back.

Pineapple Express

About a week ago I rented Pineapple Express with some friends and I was rather disappointed. Seth Rogan is usually so funny, but the movie was kind of boring actually.

It was mostly just about stoners, which are easy to laugh at, but I expected it to be a lot funnier from Seth Rogan. Hopefully his next movie will be better, because this one was kind of lame.

He had some funny lines occassionally and James Franco was very entertaining, but all in all, I thought it was kind of dumb. Seth Rogan was on such a roll with funny movies, hopefully it won't continue going downhill. I am still a big fan, so I will definitely see his next movie anyways!

He's Just Not That Into You

Recently I went and saw He's Just Not That Into You with some friends of mine and I found it to be quite funny.

Basically, the movie was about girls who just can't let go of a particular guy. There's the girls that wait by the phone for days, constantly check their inbox, and then the girls that Facebook stalk the guy.

When leaving the theater, my friends and I were discussing how ABSOLUTLY true this movie was. Women are desperate for attention, and hate rejection. I enjoyed the movie because it brought to mind all of the times I have seen my friends do the exact same thing. Wait and wait and wait for him to call, but sometimes ... it just doesn't happen. Then there's the day of sitting on the couch, eating Ben and Jerry's and moaping about how you're going to be alone for the rest of your life.

It's actually kind of silly when you think about it. It's actually very silly! Life goes on, so keep your chin up and try to be optimistic. Moaping will do nothing but ensure a bad week, and Ben and Jerry's will do nothing but make your hips bigger.

Get on with life!

Gross Finger Nail Lady

The world record holder for the longest finger nails ever recorded recently broke off her finger nails in an accident.

This woman had 28 feet of finger nails...EWWW! So this lady has not cut her finger nails since 1979, how is that even possible? I mean seriously, wouldn't those get like all dirty and bacteria filled? She would have to clean them constantly to get out all the germs and dirt she would pick up while just trying to do daily activities.

She survived being thrown from an SUV, so she was lucky, but I think breaking off those finger nails wasn't such a bad thing! I bet it was really painful to break off those nails, they're so much longer than the average woman's.

Either way, finger nails this long are just plain gross.

Idiot

Ok, so this guy didn't quite think is robbery plan all the way through. Idiot. Johny James Laverdure, decided to rob a Wells Fargo bank on Wednesday... brilliant. After this brilliant plan was over, he decided to remove all of his clothes in an attempt to avoid being identified by his clothes.

Think about it, if you were a police officer and saw a man walking calmly passed you, or a man walking passed you naked, which would do a double-take at? I don't know about you, but I think a strange naked man would draw more attention. I think it's so weird to try and figure out what brought this man to find this a good idea.

No wonder terrorists hate Americans...they think we're all a bunch of morons!

Ok... maybe that's a little extreme.

Smoking Ban

So Senate Bill 83 failed on the Senate floor. Tragic. I am trying to be optimistic though, it still has two chances to pass. The smoking ban can either pass on the House floor or they can hog house it and take it back to for a second time around.

I'm really rooting for the ban to pass. I hate being downtown and being surrounded by smoke. Places like Skinner's and the Lantern are terrible! By the end of the night, even if you weren't drinking or smoking, your clothes and hair just REEK of smoke. I am not someone who goes downtown on a daily basis, but when I do go out with my friends I hate coming home and smelling so gross.

I have designated one of my coats at my "bar coat." It is my coat that isn't as nice and it's the only one I will wear downtown because otherwise I would end up dry cleaning my good coats on a regular basis. No thanks!

Secondhand smoke isn't good for anyone so I think people should just have some common courtesy and take it outside! Currently, Cubby's is smoke free and The 9 is considering it. O'hare's will be smoke free as of March 1! That's awesome because O'hares is one of my favorite bars. It's only a matter of time, I think the ban will eventually pass, even if it doesn't make it in the session.

Wind Turbines Causing Seizures?

Check out this article! Apparently, Dr. Albert Aniel in Maine thinks that wind turbines can cause acoustic radiation, or "wind turbine syndrome. How crazy is that?

So this doctor, and others in the area, believe that the vibrations and sound from the wind turbines can cause seizures, nausea, sleeping disorders, mood disorders, and even heart attacks. I find this rather creepy, because we have wind turbines right outside Brookings and more of them are popping up all over South Dakota.

This whole thing may just be one big hoax, that I cannot be sure about. Maybe it is just some crazy doctor jumping to conclusions, but who knows? I did find this article on fark.com, so that makes me think that maybe it is all just a joke. Either way, I found it interesting and thought that maybe I would just rant a little about it. If it were true, it would be kind of tragic just because wind turbines are such a great source of energy.

I read a little of the report that Aniel has posted and it's kind of interesting. Try reading some of it, it's interesting!

Gambling Fanatic

Holy cow, Omar Siddiqui is rather amazing. This man managed to gamble away over $167 million dollars in the last 10 years. He only makes $225,000 a year. He basically got caught stealing money from Fry Electronics, the company he is an executive at. Wow!

My question is, didn't the Las Vegas casinos start to wonder where all the money was coming from? I mean they gave him high roller treatment, which included everything from first class suites to private planes. Now, what he did was wrong, that's for sure, but it is also pretty dang impressive!

I don't know if I would have been able to pull off a scam that big for that long. Granted, he has the potential to spend the next "140 years" in prison, but still... it must have been one heck of a ride. The guy had a Mercedes, a Ferrari, and a town home...wow.

Well Omar, I think what you did was wrong, and you should be punished, but I am still pretty dang impressed.

catholic church has tricks

So I was born and raised catholic. I went to a church every Sunday and went to catholic school. About half of the teachers in my elementary school were nuns and as far as I know, once you sign on for that gig, there's no going back.

In West Sussex, a Benedictine monastery is letting people take what are similar to "test runs" before taking their full vows into the catholic church. Personally, I think this is an extremely bad idea. I realize that the numbers of priests and nuns going into the monastery are going down, but this sacrament is something you don't just take a "test run."

Don't get me wrong, I have NO intention of joining, but I do think this is a bad idea to allow quick trial runs. It's a holy sacrament, and it should not be taken lightly.
